Bright and early on July 4th the Campo Fire Station was the place to be! Our young and energetic firefighters were setting up tables for our 2nd Annual 4th of July Breakfast at the Firehouse. Dan Lawrence and Larry Johnson were warming up the griddle to cook sausages and pancakes. They are not members of the Fire Auxiliary - but their wives are - so you can see how that works. All the ladies of the Auxiliary were busy setting tables, making coffee, mixing pancake batter, and getting ready for the first group of hungry people.
The breakfast was from 7 am - 10 am. We served about 280 meals, to not only Campo and Lake Morena residents, but to Boulevard Firefighters, CDF Firefighters, Border Patrol, Highway Patrol, and folks from Ramona, Descanso, Potrero, Boulevard, Imperial Valley and San Diego. It was a great turnout - but more people than we expected. Our apologies to those who had to wait a bit for their meals. Next year we promise to have more seating, two griddles going (and two more cooks), and those same great firefighters to serve your meals.
After all was said and done we had a net profit of about $1850.00. This money goes directly to our all VOLUNTEER Campo Fire Department.
Watch for information about our next event coming to the firehouse in October. We are planning a delicious Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction with lots of great items up for bid. This will be another community/family event where you can visit with all your neighbors, have a good meal, and support your firefighters.
